The Mapex Black Panther Design Lab Versatus snare drum is masterfully crafted from a special blend of maple and mahogany for do-it-all studio versatility and far-reaching tonal potential. Mapex worked long hours with multi-platinum drummer/recording artist Russ Miller to develop a snare with a clean, chunky attack and inspiring response, no matter the application. The Versatus (Latin for flexibility) was the result. Russ's vision began with a blended mahogany-maple shell — selected for its blend of low-end warmth and top-end crack — which he and Mapex chipped away at, little by little, until they arrived at the ideal depth. A 4-ply SAS-reinforcing ring on the batter sidehelps dry out and focus attack, while a ring-less snare side helps maximize snap and sensitivity. On the hardware side, Mapex's heavy-duty 2.3mm Sonic Saver hoops provide power and durability, while Design Lab lugs open up the high tuning range for a dynamite attack.
